Embrace the wild beauty of the ocean and jungle in February 2016 for “LOVE WAVE”: the annual Blissology Yoga. Ecology. Surf retreat with a Valentine’s week twist with global yoga teachers Eoin Finn & Insiya Rasiwala-Finn.
Your home for 7 days, legendary Tierra de Milagros: a secluded, off-the-grid jungle hide-out nestled between pristine Pacific beaches and tropical virgin rainforest in the wilds of the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Handcrafted thatch-roof bungalows and rustic, eco-conscious cabinas are scattered within this lush botanical garden we share with the monkeys, macaws, toucans, and sloths.
Practice yoga twice a day with Eoin and Insiya in a raised, thatched-roof shala overlooking the shimmering waves. Your morning practices will get you going (more than robust Costa Rican coffee!) with a sweet wave of fiery bliss, while the afternoon sessions will offer deeper alignment instruction in areas we choose to focus on such as inversions, front body stretches (or backbends) as well as restorative asana.
Adjacent to Tierra de Milagros is a gentle (non-rocky) surf break with rolling breakers; while a mile away is Matapalo, a world class point break for serious surfers. And if you’re not a surfer, don’t worry, you can choose to explore the jungles, hike to nearby waterfalls, luxuriate at the on-site spa, or simply partake of some “serious” hammock enlightenment.
The goal for the week, other than spending less time on our smart phones so we can tune in more deeply to what Eoin calls our “heart phones”, is to create lasting habits of change through a series of practical and powerful daily rituals that will help you to live in what they call an “Upward Spiral”.
To top it all off, you will be nourished by delicious, healthy, "fresh from the finca" organic meals with fresh veggies and herbs grown right on the property's organic gardens that will take you on a global flavour tour.
Also on offer: a living foods cooking class with Insiya where you will learn how to make raw cacao truffles infused with superfoods to raise your immunity and satiate your chocolate appetite.
If you choose not to return to the wilds of the urban jungle after a week in the tropical jungle, we won’t blame you!

Brunch, post-yoga will be our main meal for the day with savoury entrees, rice and beans, veggies and freshly baked breads. You will feel satiated after this meal! We find that eating a light breakfast followed by a hearty midday meal is one of the best ways to acclimatize to the tropics. At 3 p.m. we will have a healthy snack: one day it may be veggies with a delicious guacamole-like dip, and a juice or smoothie; another day it may be home made whole grain crackers with a veggie pâté, etc. Dinner will be a festive, family style buffet dinner including fish a few times over the course of the week.
Tierra de Milagros is a secluded, off-the-grid jungle hide-out nestled between pristine Pacific beaches and tropical virgin rainforest in the wilds of the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Surrounding this magical space, you will discover waterfalls, tide pools, a beautiful river lagoon, and an array of spectacular beaches to swim, sun, and surf.
Cabinas
The rustic, open air jungle bungalows and cabinas put you right, smack in the middle of nature. Experience your own private paradise, shaded from the sun by lush halyconias and ginger. At night, enjoy the cool breezes, lull of waves, song of crickets, and relaxing rustlings of the jungle. Wake up to the howler monkey’s call and spend your days exploring this unspoiled oasis, where the river meets the ocean.
The cabinas offer a range of accommodations including everything from secluded, thatched-roof palapa style jungle ranchos lit only by candles and sharing nearby bathroom facilities to newly renovated, tin-roofed cabinas complete with terraces, sitting areas, en suite bathrooms, hot water and solar powered outlets and lights, and balconies overlooking frolicking monkeys in the canopy.
Beach House
This beautiful open format house, located directly on the beach and the river, has magnificent views of both the crashing waves and the monkeys happily playing in the trees. The two king bedrooms upstairs share a bathroom with hot-water shower. There is an additional king bed downstairs with a bathroom and dipping pool. Another, slightly larger, river-filled, dipping pool looks out at the ocean from the front terrace. The house features its own solar system which provides enough electricity for lights, refrigerator, and outlets for recharging electronic devices. A gas stove and all the necessary kitchen equipment give you the freedom to cook for yourself and whip up a cool batch of margaritas if you so desire.

If I am a beginner surfer is this retreat ok?
Yes, it is a wonderful area for surf newbies. The waves are gentle especially in February and where we offer the lessons in conjunction with a local surf school it is sandy on the ocean bed, so you don’t have to worry about reefs or rocks.
What if I haven’t done much yoga?
If you come with an open mind and open heart, your body will follow. In other words, we will work with you wherever you are. If you’ve taken some prior classes in vinyasa or flow yoga, that will be a plus. However, Blissology Yoga is taught with modifications in most poses so you will gain something from the practices even when surrounded by more advanced yogis. And if you stick with us, you’ll probably see some incredible transformations in your yoga practice in just one week!
What if my spouse does not do yoga and I want to bring him/her along?
This is a great retreat for that, for two reasons. One, your spouse could enjoy all the other offerings of the Osa such as relaxing on the extensive Tierra de Milagros property; or two, since the yoga we practice makes everyone feel so amazing and it is taught in an “all levels, all good” format, your spouse may well be more easily cajoled into taking a yoga class and who knows what that may lead to! It is also possible that we may lose him/her to the surf!
How rustic is rustic?
It’s rustic, or what we like to think of as rustic luxury, because you know what, it is truly a luxury in our times to be able to live in such simplicity. Your basic creature comforts are looked after, you will eat delicious food and sleep in comfortable beds, protected from the bugs by sheer nets. You will have shelter over your heads, but the walls around you with their huge open windows will be open to jungle sounds and while some of you may have ensuite bathrooms, others may have to walk a few steps outside under the moonlight if you need to use the facilities at night.
How unplugged will I be?
Be prepared to:
How do I know this is the right retreat for me?
For a week, we will be around no shops, no neon signage and a lack of stimulation unless you make it to the local watering hole. We think this sounds like the perfect antidote to urban life, but if you are looking for A/C hotel rooms and laying by a pool, we can tell you for certain, this retreat is not for you. If, however, you want some unadulterated, pure nature and toning, strengthening, inspiring and relaxing yoga with a big dose of bliss, you’ve signed up for the right one!
If your flight arrives into San Jose, Costa Rica International Airport (airport code SJO) in the morning, it may be possible for you to connect through to Puerto Jimenez the same day. If your flight arrives too late to connect, you can stay overnight at a local airport hotel and then take a flight the next day (via Sansa or Nature Air) to Puerto Jimenez.
Please try to book a flight from SJO that arrives in Puerto Jimenez around mid to early afternoon on February 13th. Snacks will be available on arrival, and you can leave your belongings with the Tierra de Milagros staff and explore the grounds and beach before checking into your room later in the day. Eoin and Insiya will offer the first circle and yoga class around 4:00 pm on February 13th.
The retreat ends on February 20th with a morning yoga practice and brunch, so departing Tierra de Milagros after 11:00 am would be perfect. If you need to leave earlier due to flight arrangements, that is fine too!
