The good news is fear is very subjective and really all about mind over matter. Fear is only tangible for the person who has created it. The bad news is, you have to put in some effort to overcome it. This begins with changing your thought patterns, your beliefs and philosophies about life. If you see something as a fear, try looking at it as a challenge to overcome, rather than a daunting and unbearable experience.
Let’s take travel as an example. I’ve been planning a solo trip for the past few months and a question I have encountered time and time again is “aren’t you afraid of travelling on your own?” My answer is simply, “no”. How could I be alone when I am surrounded by a world full of people? Travel is not a thing to be feared; it is an adventure to be embraced, whether you are joined by familiar faces or not. Strangers can easily become friends. Unknown destinations you have never visited before can instantly become a new home. Challenging situations can become wonderful opportunities for growth. Change your perspective and the world will suddenly appear to be a much more welcome and safer place to explore.
Embrace the world that is before you and release whatever is holding you back. I leave you with the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “He who is not everday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life”.
