It’s not easy to grow spiritually in this world, when everything around us is based upon physicality—appearance, having a nice home, money, status, material goods. We’ve been programmed to some extent by the culture that we have grown up around. It formed in us some good values, but maturity gives us the opportunity to rise above and beyond that which was assimilated almost by osmosis. Rather than endlessly seeking out external rewards, we can learn from other cultures and people, and strive for a balance between the material and spiritual aspects of our lives.
Why is spiritual growth important? It definitely isn’t easy. Here are a few good ways to start thinking in new directions:
1. Don’t compare yourself with others. It will only cause confusion. We have to focus on what is going on internally with ourselves. That is the way to true happiness.
2. How do we do that? Well, we have to be willing to dredge up and identify the truths that lie deep within us. I believe the only way to do this is by looking at our thoughts and feelings; focusing on what our inner voice is telling us in relation to our outer experiences. We have to do this honestly, and without judging or criticizing ourselves. Rather than berate ourselves, focus on areas where we need to improve. It will take effort.
3. Remember that anything worth doing isn’t easy.
We all need a purpose and meaning to be truly happy. Spiritual growth is the path to gaining this in our lives. Join us for a sacred journey and let it be a fresh perspective that starts or continues to lead you down the path of spiritual growth.
