Greek Gods and Goddesses

[socialring]
Greece is a land steeped in myth and mystery with legends and stories spanning thousands of years. The culture is rich and colourful and still reflective of many of the sacred beliefs that revolved around what we today consider Greek Mythology. With ancient ruins and temples still calling and welcoming visitors from across the world, it is easy to understand why this country remains so captivating. Who were the powerful gods and goddesses that once reigned over these ancient lands and its inhabitants? Why do people answer their call even in present day?
The Olympian gods and goddesses were the main deities in Ancient Greece. The twelve principle gods and goddesses who resided atop of Mount Olympus formed the Greek pantheon and presided over every aspect of human life. While in total there were more than twelve Olympian gods, there was never more than this number at one time. The gods were born in a variety of magical and supernatural ways, and even though they grew up just like humans, they were immortal. They married, had offspring, and often meddled in the affairs of the humans they ruled over, regardless if it was welcomed or not. Greek myths paint colourful and intriguing tales of the gods and goddesses and of their many trysts and encounters with humans. To this day, we learn about and are told these stories that educate and delight us, while conveying many valuable moral lessons. Here is a brief list and description of the Principle Olympian God and Goddesses:
